Namchi, 21st November(IPR): The 7th Himalayan Open Badminton Championship – 2021 concluded, today amidst much fanfare. This four day long Championship was organised by the Badminton Association of Namchi(BAN) at Namchi Gymnasium Hall.
Todays concluding event saw Minister Forest Department Mr. Karma Loday as the chief guest. Chief Minister’s Spouse Ms. Krishna Rai was the special guest. Present amongst others were Political Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Jacob Khaling accompained by advisors, chairmans, members of BAN, tournament officials, players and coaches.
The objective of this Championship is to provide a platform for budding as well as seasoned badminton players, to nurture their talent while also giving the players and other associates an opportunity to showcase their skills. This Championship also aims to develop physical talents in terms of playing badminton at a competitive level to their maximum potential while promoting sound health, safety and physical fitness.
It may be mentioned here that approximately 400 participants of various badminton associations belonging to host state and places namely that of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong took part in this Championship.
Various competitions such as Boys and Girls Under 14 single, Boys and Girls Under 17 single, Boys and Girls Under 19 single, Boys Under 19 Double, Women and Men Single, Women and Men double, Mixed Doubles and many more badminton contest was held during the four days of the championship.
