National Voters Day celebrated at Namchi DAC

Namchi, 25th January (IPR): Along with the rest of the country National Voters Day was celebrated at the conference hall of District Administrative Centre, Namchi, today. Present during the program were DC (South) Mr. M. Bharani Kumar, ADC (South) Mr. Anant Jain, SDM (HQ) Mr. Chiran Rizal, Under Secretary (Elections) Ms. Bhumika Chettri. They were accompanied by football star Mr. Nirmal Chettri who was appointed as district icon with regards to elections along with newly enrolled voters.
The district administration also distributed Braille Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) to four persons with visual disabilities.
Addressing, the gathering DC (South) spoke about the importance of National Voters Day and informed that this year’s theme is ‘Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative’. He urged the attendees to exercise their right to vote particularly the newly enrolled voters as this is one of the main fundamental rights given to the citizens of this country. Mr. Bharani added that this day has been celebrated keeping in view the COVID-19 protocol and underlined that voters need to be informed and ample awareness has to be created in order to understand the electoral process of our country.
During the function, newly enrolled voters were also felicitated and handed over their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC). Awards were also given to various well performing officials during the election process they were namely ERO (ADC, Ravangla) Mr. Sunil Mothey , ERO (SDM, Namchi) Ms. Rajini Pega, AERO (BD, Nandugaon) Mr. Tenzing Bhutia, AERO (MEO, Namchi) Mr. Lakpa Sherpa and other officials.
The program was also live telecasted to Booth Level Officers, Supervisors and to volunteers from Nehru Yuva Kendra the telecast also included message from Elections Commission of India.
