Chairman NCSK met with the Sanitation Workers

Namchi, 3rd February (IPR): Chairman of National Commission for Safai Karamcharis, Shri M. Venkatesan chaired a meeting at the conference hall of DAC, today. Present amongst others were DC (South) Shri. M. Bharani Kumar, SSP (South) Shri. Thakur Thapa, Joint Secretary (UDD, Jorethang) Smt. Rinzing Choden Bhutia, Officials and Safai Karmacharis.
With a view to address the grievances of the safai Karmacharis Chairman Shri. M. Venkatesan had conducted this meeting.
During the meeting it was informed that Municipal Executive Officers of Namchi and Jorethang have been directed to submit the revelant forms pertaining to the official details of the sanitation workers so that their well-being is looked into. Keeping in view the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court the Namchi Municipal Council and Naya-bazar Jorethang Nagar Panchayat will mandatorily have to conduct medical camps every three months as many workers suffer from occupational hazards. The meeting also saw recommendation of the various central governments specific programmes for the facilitation of the Safai Karmacharis namely that of application of insurance for the benefit of the sanitation workers and also implementation of Pradhan Mantri Bhima Yojna. Chairman Shri. Venkatesan also impressed upon the need to regularly provide safety kits and reviewed the facilities provided to consolidated and casual Safai Karamcharis.
The Chairman also held a brief interaction with the Safai karmacharis wherein he took stock of the working condition and those relating to health, safety and wages of the sanitation workers. The Safai karmacharis also appraised the chairman on their working condition, suggestions and feedback were also given by them.
The Chairman is currently touring Sikkim to review the implementation of “The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavenger and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013”,
