Training on Cooperative Management and Book Keeping held at Namchi

Namchi, 17th February: Cooperation Department, Government of Sikkim, Namchi District in collaboration with Sikkim Organic Farming Development Agency (SOFDA) successfully conducted a three-day long training on Cooperative Management and book keeping for Managers, CEO and members of the board of Directors of FPO cooperatives societies under MOVCD and NABARD from 14th to 16th February 2022 at DAC conference Hall, Namchi. A total of 27 participants from 13 cooperative societies under Namchi Sub-Division attended the training who were imparted knowledge on • Cooperative Values and principles • Role of cooperatives in socio-economic development • management and functioning of cooperative societies • powers and duties of the board of directors, managers, office bearers and the Registrar • introduction to the Sikkim Cooperative societies Act 1978 and Rules 1981 • election of the board of Directors, its procedures • importance of conducting Audits and Annual General Meetings • Legal aspects and settlement of disputes. Introduction to the Common Accounting System, Maintenance of book of accounts such as Cash Book, General Ledgers and other book of accounts, practical explanation on maintenance of book of accounts were covered on the second day of the training.
A session on Scheme and incentives under Agriculture and Horticulture Departments with special reference to Farmers Producers Cooperative Societies was also incorporated in the course. The resource persons for the courses were Mr. Ben Kumar Sunuwar, Joint Registrar, Mr. L M Rai, Deputy Registrar, Mr. Ajay Rai, Assistant Registrar, Mr. Hari Prasad Bhattarai, Auditor from the Cooperation Department and Dr. Nation Rai, AD-cum-Deputy Project Manager (ATMA) from Agriculture Department.
The participants were also awarded with Certificate of participation on successful completion of the course. Mrs. Sewan Rai, Deputy Registrar Namchi, on behalf of the Department, expressed her gratitude towards SOFDA for extending their support in organising the training. Similar training for cooperative societies under Ravangla Sub-Division is also lined up.
