Namchi District Hospital gets RTPCR laboratory

Namchi, 23rd February(IPR): An RT-PCR laboratory was inaugurated at Namchi District Hospital, today. Present during the inauguration were Sr. Consultant Orthopedic Dr. D. Deokota, Public Health Specialist and laboratory advisor, Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Dr. Indranil Roy, Clinical Microbiologist and National Programme Coordinator (CDC) Dr. Anshuman Mishra alongside resource persons Dr. Shantanu Prakash and Mr. Gaurav and staff from Namchi District Hospital.
Addressing, the gathering Dr. Indranil Roy gave a brief overview about the reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (RTPCR) laboratory it’s functions and other important aspects. He underlined that this laboratory will not only aid in determining Covid-19 results but will also aid in detection of viral and other bacterial diseases.
Speaking during the function, District Medical Superintendent (South) Dr. S. N. Adhikari expressed his gratitude towards Centres for Disease Control and Prevention for assisting in establishing a highly equipped laboratory at Namchi District Hospital. He highlighted that the setting up of RTPCR laboratory is an important asset for the general public as this laboratory will go a long way to improve testing facilities and will be very vital for Covid-19 management. Moreover, he informed that from henceforth onwards public can get their RTPCR tested at Namchi District Hospital, itself.
It maybe mentioned that a two day training for laboratory technicians on RTPCR will be held on 23rd and 24th February.
