World environment day celebrated at Namchi district

Namchi, 5th June (IPR): World environment day is celebrated on June 5th every year and this day is commemorated to raise awareness about environmental issues, the increasingly deteriorating conditions, climate change etc.
The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Only One Earth.’ This was also the slogan for the 1972 conference in Stockholm, where the annual global event was first instituted on June 5th.
EMRS, Suntoley, Melli under Social Justice and Welfare Division, Namchi carried out plantation drive to celebrate world Environment Day at its newly constructed school campus. Various activities like plantation drive, cleanliness drive and painting competition was conducted on the occasion. Principal In-charge Dr. Amar K. Jana, Teaching Staffs, Not Teaching Staffs and students participated with enthusiasm on the occasion. The occasion was also graced by Lila Badhur Kalikatay, Panchayat Member, Lower Suntoley, and Tilak Karkee member of Disaster management group.
Principal and staffs explained the importance of planting trees on the occasion. Panchayat and other members also interacted with the students of EMRS Suntoley. They also surveyed the ongoing construction works carried out at the campus.
Palm, cherry, guava and other saplings were planted by students and others present in the programme. All Teaching and Non-Teaching Staffs including Principal In-charge also planted individually saplings in the school campus.
