Poshan Maah observed amongst children of CCI

Namchi, 20th September(IPR): A daylong celebration of Poshan Maah was held at Namchi Officer’s Club, today. This program is a collaborative initiative of Sikkim Commission for Protection of Child Rights( SCPCR), State Child Protection Society and District Child Protection Unit and South Women & Child Development Department wherein Chairperson, Sikkim Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Ms. Rama Tamang was the Chief Guest. Present amongst others were Additional Secretary cum Member Secretary (WCD) Ms. Tashi Choden Bhutia, DCPO(South) Ms. Roshnila Gurung, Member (SCPCR) Ms. Kelsang Bhutia, Assistant Director (SCPCR) Mr. I.P. Sharma, CDPO (Namchi) Mr. Laxman Tamang, Programme Officer (WCD) Mr. Peter Rai, Assistant Director (Nutrition) Ms. Sophia Lepcha, Protection Officer (WCD) Mr. Wangyal Tamang accompained by Incharge of Child Care Institutes (CCI), Supervisor of ICDS, Poshan Maah Team, AWW and staff from Nutrition, DCPO and Health Department.
It maybe mentioned that this Poshan Abhiyan program is being organized for the first time for the children of Child Care Institutes in the district. A total of 55 children from Manjusha Open Shelter Home,Mayallang Home, Turuk Children’s Home, Suraksha Open Shelter and Kapinzal Children’s Home participated in the Poshan program. The aim of this program was on inculcating good nutrition habits and positive behaviors for an improved health.
Addressing, the gathering Chief Guest Ms. Rama Tamang applauded the efforts of the official in conducting such kind of educative program. She also extended her gratitude towards the children who enthusiastically took part in the various activities lined up by the department. During the course of the program an anemia screening was also set up wherein it was detected that most of the children were anemic, in this regards, she underscored the incharges of CCI and other concerned officials to strengthen the existing mechanisms and foster newer strategies for tackling anemia. Moreover, she also spoke about the various initiatives of the State Government aimed for uplifting the CCI and towards the welfare of children at large.
The program was marked by various educational activities like quiz and drawing competition based on the theme of Poshan Abhiyan in which children from the five CCI energetically took part. In drawing competition the first, second and third position was bagged by Sneha Subba, Ratan and Hema Devi, respectively.
