Public Utility Building and Kisan Bazar inaugurated at Namchi

Namchi, 23rd September (IPR): Minister, Urban Development Department Mr. L. B. Das inaugurated a Public Utility Building and Kisan Bazar at Namchi, today. He was accompanied by Chairperson UDD Mr. K. B. Rai, Advisor Smart City Ltd Mr. G.T. Dhungel , Additional Political Secretary (Namchi) Ms. Anjeeta Rajalim, Chairperson Namchi Municipal Council (NMC) Mr. Ganesh Rai, Secretary UDD Mr. M.T. Sherpa, CEO Namchi Smart City Ltd Mr. Thupden Gyasto Bhutia alongside officials from the departments, NMC Councillors, stakeholders and public at large.
At the onset Minister Mr. L. B. Das inspected the Public Utility Building, parts of Namchi Bazaar and Kisan Bazar wherein he was briefed by the officials regarding the functioning of structure, quality of materials used and how many local vendors will be utilizing the space provided by the department.
Addressing, the gathering Advisor Smart City Ltd Mr. G.T. Dhungel congratulated the departments and the public of Namchi in acquiring this modern state-of-art infrastructure. He informed that these infrastructures will bring about a framework wherein the local shopkeepers can smoothly run their business thereby adding to the economic growth of the town. He also added that apart from the authority’s citizens of the district are also responsible in keeping these buildings clean as a part of their civic duty. Moreover, he said that the State Government is committed in providing a resilient urban development planning which is robust in nature.
Secretary, UDD Mr. M. T. Sherpa spoke on how these infrastructures are build keeping in mind its multi-functional techniques. These buildings are equipped with various facilities with space for improved mobility so as to conduct the day- to-day business.
Sharing the technical report Chief Engineer Mr. Shailendra Sharma informed that the structure has been designed as three separate blocks – Office Block, Haat Bazar/ Vendor Market, and Parking. The office block consists of office space for Sub Division office of Urban Development Department, State Bank of Sikkim, and various departments. As per approved DPR, one police booths had been incorporated at extreme sides of G+7 level of Kisan Bazaar to provide adequate security measures. A room also have been allotted to Sikkim Government Retired Employees Welfare Association (C&D Group). The remaining one room on the North east side shall be handed over to the Police Department. The Haat Bazaar/ Vendors Market will be at two floor levels G+3 and G+4 storey of the structure which has been designated for weekly haat . A cold storage has been installed to store perishable produce which will be able to cater to the farmers, whole-seller and any other merchants who would wish to avail this facility. Space for parking has also been demarcated Level I Parking is of 864.86 sqm and Level II Parking is of 1409.96 sqm. Further, the Level III and IV can be used as alternative two-wheeler parking during the week days. Ramp has been designed and constructed to communicate traffic from G.L to G+4.In, other services the kisan market will have a cold storage, lifts, water supply and sanitation, installation of CCTV, garbage Chutes and many more, which will be taken up departmentally.
As, per Public utility Building which has been constructed by Namchi Smart City Limited the total number of rooms/shops is 18 numbers (8ft x 10ft), Gents’ toilet (Ground Floor) are of 4 units and 3 urinals, Ladies’ toilet (First Floor) are of 4 units and a Cafeteria is on Second Floor.
During, the courses of the program six beneficiaries were handed over the Affordable Housing from different wards of Namchi. They are as follows:
Affordable housing at Dambudara ward: –
i. Mr. Ram Prasad Chettri
ii. Mrs. Maina Devi Chettri
Affordable housing at Upper Ghurpisay ward: –
i. Mr. Dorjee Bhutia
ii. Mrs. Passang Lhamu Bhutia
Affordable housing at Upper Singithang ward: –
i. Mr. Ratna Bahadur Rai
ii. Mrs. Uma Devi Rai
Handing and taking over of the Assets from Urban Development Department to Namchi Municipal Council was also undertaken. Additionally an allotment order to the various beneficiaries was also given by Minister UDD and other dignitaries.
