Mountain biking (MTB) Joy Ride and Mountaineering and Allied Sports Equipment Display at Namchi on the occasion of 70th International Everest Day 2023

Namchi, 29th May: On, the occasion of 70th International Everest Day 2023, Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Ecotourism (IHCAE),Chemchey under Tourism & Civil Aviation Department organised a mountain biking (MTB) Joy Ride and Mountaineering and Allied Sports Equipment Display at Namchi, today. The event was flagged off from Namchi Bhanu Bhakta Park. The designated route for the ride was from Tharpu-Mickhola-Lower Sorok-Lower Mickhola-Lower Kopchey-Kopchey-Singithang and back to starting point(End point).
The objective of organising this event was to impart knowledge on Adventure sports and Mountaineering to the youths and people of Namchi, while also generating awareness about IHCAE that has been instrumental in giving training on various kinds of Adventure Course since the past 13 years.
A display centre comprising of various equipment was also set up at Bhanu Park premises which was visited by the participants of the event.
This event was observed to mark the 70th International Everest Day to honour the two legendary Mountaineers. On this day, seventy years ago, on May 29, 1953, the dream and challenge of Climbing the Worlds highest peak had become a reality for two members of British expedition. Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa became the first people to reach the 8,848 metres summit.
