District Level meeting on Pradhan Mantri Aadi Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAAGY) convened at the District Administrative Centre

Namchi 23rd June (IPR): The District Level meeting on Pradhan Mantri Aadi Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAAGY) was convened at the District Administrative Centre, today.
The meeting was presided over by DC Namchi, Mr. M. Bharani Kumar, who is also the Chairperson of the Committee. Assistant Collector Namchi, Mr. Pulkit, CEO Education Department, Mr. K. Inbaraj, Joint Director Agriculture Department, Mrs. Nirmala Moktan, ACF Wildlife, Mrs. Hari Maya Thapa, CDPO- W&CDD, Mr. Laxman Tamang Assistant Directors from the concerned GPUs, officials and staff from line departments were present at the meeting.
Welfare Officer. Mr. Kyondit Lepcha provided a brief introduction and background of the PMAAGY scheme. He informed that in Sikkim, a total of 62 villages having at least 40% ST population as per the 2011 Census, identified by the Ministry will be covered under the scheme. In Namchi district, seven GPUs have been selected, which are Kateng-Phampok, Perbing-Dovan, Ralong-Namlung, Barfung-Zarong, Kewzing-Bakhim, Lamaten-Tingmoo and Sripatam-Gagyong. DC further elaborated on the main objective of the scheme, which is to achieve integrated socio-economic development of these selected villages through convergence approach. Sectors such as Education, Health, Agriculture, Skill Development and livelihood aimed at generating employment and income will be implemented in these GPUs for the overall progress and development. The Assistant Directors presented a detailed Village Development Plan, wherein key concerns to improve basic services and facilities related to the above sectors were discussed. They also identified challenges and devised strategies so as to foster inclusive development in the GPUs. The DC offered valuable insights on the potential that an individual GPU can garner and cited examples such as mushroom spawn facilities, woollen weaving training, which can be carried out in warmer or colder GPU depending on their climatic conditions, so to reap maximum benefit.
