209 Bhanu Jayanti Celebration at Namchi District

Namchi, 13th July (IPR): The 209th Birth Anniversary of Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya organized by the Dakshin Sikkim Sahitya Sammelan (DSSS) and District Administrative Centre Namchi was held at Officer’s Club, today.
The event was attended by Writer-cum-Poet Mr. Amar Baniya Lohoro as the Chief Guest alongside Sr. S.P. Dr. Tsering Namgyal Gyatso, ADC (Namchi) Mr. Anant Jain, ASP (Namchi) Mr. Parshu Sharma, President, (DSSS, Namchi) Shri. Dalman D. Gurung, poet Ms. Neelam Gurung, Lepcha Writer Mr. Samten Dorjee Lepcha, representatives from the sammelan, officials, students and other literary personalities.
The event commenced with offering of prayers and garlanding of the statue of Bhanu Bhakta at Bhanu Shailik by the Chief Guest and dignitaries followed by the Sobha Yatra.
Mr. Lohoro extended his warm greetings to the gathering and highlighted the remarkable progress made in sahitik programme under the vision of Namchi Dakshin Sikkim Sahitya Samalen.
He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards Namchi DSSS for their exceptional contribution in the field of cultural activities.
He added that the organisation’s commitment to fostering sahitik programmes with a clear vision has undoubtedly propelled the growth of literature and cultural awareness amongst the community.
Furthermore, the Chief Guest recited poems from various poets, including the works of the poet Bhanu Bhakta. Through his recitations, he conveyed the essence and significance of Bhanu Bhakta’s poems, offering a profound understanding of his timeless wisdom.
In addition to Bhanu Bhakta, the Chief Guest acknowledged the contributions of other poets who have greatly enriched Nepali sahitya (literature). He also shed light on the philosophy and life teachings of Bhanu Bhakta, whose writings have impacted and put Nepali literature on the forefront.
ADC (Namchi) Mr. Anant Jain also addressed the programme, wherein he deliberated upon the impact left behind by the iconic poet, Adikabi. He spoke on how Bhanubhakta was the first Nepali poet who translated the great epic “Ramayana” from Sanskrit to Nepali and further stated that his writing is still significant in our society. Mr. Jain also highlighted that it was Adikabi’s creation that the foundation of Nepali literature was laid.
The day’s event saw students from various schools participating in Ramayan Path, Kavita Path and other cultural and traditional arrangements.The programme also witnessed the the committee felicitating Poet Ms. Neelam Gurung who is the winner of the first Poet Idol and Lepcha writer Mr. Samten Dorjee Lepcha, who has translated Ramayan from Nepali to the Lepcha language.
In Kavita Path the first position was grabbed by Ninamma Rai from Namchi Public School the second and third position was secured by Siya Rai from Namchi Girls’ Senior Secondary School and Pranisha Sharma from Namchi Senior Secondary School.
In Ramayan Path the first, second and third position was grabbed by Namchi Girls’ Senior Secondary School followed by Namchi Senior Secondary School and New Secondary School, respectively.
Similarly, in the painting category, which was judged by Indra Danush Chitrakala Sanstha (IDCS) Deepen Rai from New Light Academy stood first, Safal Hang Subba and Prateek Rai from New Secondary School stood second and third, respectively.
Likewise in Dance competition the first, second, third and fourth schools were New Secondary School,Namchi Senior Secondary School, New Light Academy, Namchi Girls’ Senior Secondary School.
The participants of dance, Ramayan Path, painting and Kavita Path were given certificates and awards by the organizing committee.
