Minister Labour Department distributes distress relief assistance cheques for the labourers under BOCWWB of Namchi District

Namchi, 18th Oct(IPR): Minister, Labour Department, Mr. L. N. Sharma distributed the distress relief assistance cheques to labourers registered under the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (BOCWWB) during the Awareness Cum Distribution of Distress Relief Assistance programme for Namchi District, today.
The programme held at the auditorium hall of Namchi Girls’ Senior Secondary School had the presence of MLAs Mrs Rajkumari Thapa, Mr. T T Bhutia alongwith Advisors and Chairpersons of different departments.
Present amongst others were the Secretary (Labour Department) Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, Assistant Labour Commissioner Mr. Mohan Chettri along with other officials, staff of Labour Department and labourers at large.
A total amount of Rs. 1,49,20000/- (One Crore Forty Nine Lakhs and Twenty Thousand Rupees) was dispersed to 1492 labourers who have been registered under the BOCWWB in Namchi District. The Minister also handed over the cheques amounting to Rs.Ten thousand each to 942 labourers, while the remaining 550 labourers received their payment through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Addressing the gathering, Minister Mr. L. N. Sharma informed that this financial assistance is provided to comfort and ease the distress endured by the family of labourers due to the recent disaster. He elucidated the role of labourers and their contributions towards the nation building, and stated that the State Government under the leadership of the Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang has always been concerned about their welfare and hence, enhanced their monetary relief from Rs. Five Thousand to Rs. Ten Thousand. He further added that to augment the labourers’ welfare, the State Goverment has initiated various welfare schemes as per the provision of Employees State Insurance Act (ESIC).
The welfare measures given to the registered labourers and workers under the BOCWWB are as follows:
Permanent disability/death during the course of employment- Rs. Five Lakhs; Natural death of registered workers – Rs. Two Lakhs;
Funeral Assistance Rs. Twenty Thousand; Maternity Benefit – Rs.Thirty Thousand; Marriage Assistance- Rs.Twenty Thousand;
Medical assistance – Rs. Twenty Thousand; Minor injury assistance – Rs. Twenty Thousand and
One time pension of Rs. Fifty Thousand.
Further, he urged the gatherings to aware the other unregistered labourers who are working in various capacities and inform them about the registration process so as to avail the welfare assistance under the BOCWWB.
Speaking during the programme, Secretary Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, informed that the State Government is taking all efforts to mitigate the hardship faced during the recent flood. He updated that the labourers stranded in the affected areas in Mangan District are being safely evacuated and essential materials are also being provided at their rehabilitation centres.
At the onset, two-minute silence was observed remembering those who have lost their lives in the recent flood.
During the programme, the Minister also handed over the cheques of Rs. 37500 /- (Thirty Seven Thousand and Five Hundred rupees) to 5 cattle owners as a compensation for the loss of their cattle due to lumpy skin disease. It maybe mentioned here that a total of 176 beneficiaries will receive their compensation for the loss in the first phase under Namchi District.
Likewise, under the Production Incentive Schemes for horticulture produce, a total of 18 beneficiaries from Temi Namphing Constituency received their cheques amounting Rs. 2.93 lakhs from the Horticulture Department which was handed over by the Minister during the programme.
