World Soil Day 2023 celebrated at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Namthang
Namchi,5 December: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Namthang in convergence with ATMA Namchi District- State Agriculture Department celebrated World Soil Day 2023 with the theme ‘Soil and Water: A Source of Life’. The main objective of this theme is to make people aware of the soil, how to maintain the ecosystem, and to spread awareness about the usefulness and importance of soil.
The dignitaries present in the programme were Honourable Panchayat Shri. Mani Kumar Tamang, Senior Scientist and Head Shri. I.P Shivakoti, Additional Director Agriculture Department Smt. Nirmala Moktan, Deputy Director cum PD ATMA Dr. Nation Rai, Deputy Director Agriculture Department Namchi Wangyal Lepcha, Soil Testing Lab (In-Charge) Shri. Yograj Pradhan, SLBC-SBI Shri Gabadhar Ray. Farmers from various blocks of Namchi District actively participated in the programme.
The programme commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Pravesh Shivakoty Subject Matter Specialist KVK. The aims and objectives of the programme was highlighted by Senior Scientist and Head KVK Shri. I.P. Shivakoty. PowerPoint presentation on the importance of soil, Soil Testing and Soil Health Card Scheme and was delivered by Soil Testing Lab (In-Charge) Shri. Yograj Pradhan. Shri. Wangyal Lepcha Deputy Director gave awareness on the various schemes of the Agriculture Department which are being implemented for the benefit of the farming community. Distribution of the Soil Health Card was also carried out during the programme.
To commemorate the celebration of World Soil Day a short film on Soil was also presented to make the occasion an eventful one. Farmer friendly scheme – Kisan Credit Card Scheme was also addressed during the programme by Shri. Gabadhar Ray SLBC-SBI who gave an insight of the scheme through which the farmers can avail loans at subsidised rates. Field Co-ordinator Namthang Block- SBI Gyalmo Lepcha also gave a detailed information of the KCC Scheme and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. Visit to the Soil testing lab and method demonstration on Soil sample collection was also carried out in the KVK Farm. The programme concluded with the demonstration of Kisan Drone by Subject Matter Specialist KVK Dr. Pravesh Shivakoty and Drone Pilot-Dil Kumar Lamichaney.
