Namchi district observes Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at District Administrative Centre
Namchi, 2 March(IPR): District Administrative Centre, Namchi organised an Orientation Programme for Master Volunteers and Health Workers under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at the Conference Hall of DAC, today.
The programme was chaired by Ms Annapurna Alley, DC Namchi cum Chairperson Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Mr Pulkit Assistant Collector, Dr SN Adhikari CMO Namchi, Mr Gopal Kumar Chettri SDM(HQ), Mr Sunil Kalikotey SDM(Namchi), Mr Kyondit Lepcha Welfare Officer Namchi, Ms Pema Rana Deputy SP(Namchi), Mr Kishor Baniya Cordinator Red Ribbon Club(Resource Person), Mr Laxman Tamang CDPO Namchi and other volunteers from the district.
The Main objective of the programme was to ensure collective vision aiming to eradicate the menace of substance abuse, which involves comprehensive strategies, including awareness campaigns, legal measures, treatment facilities, and community engagement.
During the programme, the DC informed about raising concerns on the consumption of drugs and alcoholism in the state. She stated that awareness should emphasis on the families and societies rather than the individuals, who are indulged in substance abuse and informed that one needs to be acceptable and sensible while dealing with such cases. At the outset, the DC also administered oath for the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Further, SDM (HQ) elaborated on the concept of the programme and informed that it is observed worldwide to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving the goal of a sustainable world free of substance abuse. He also displayed various videos and activities that showcased the preventive education & awareness generation on substance abuse along with its treatment and rehabilitation.
The Resource person for the day was Mr Kishor Baniya Cordinator Red Ribbon Club Sikkim. He hosted an interactive sessions with the volunteers, where he explained the signs and syndromes(Behavioural symptoms) of the substance abuse. He highlighted about moral values and health scenarios of the district. Similarly, he presented in depth datas of substance abuse in the district and its impact on families, societies and state.
Likewise, the volunteers of the district also shared their experiences and challenges faced while conducting Drugs Safai Abhiyan. The volunteers were also informed about the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan app, which enables capturing the data of awareness activities and monitors its progress.
