Namchi district conducts District Level Neighbourhood Youth Parliament
Namchi, March 12(IPR): The District Level Neighbourhood Youth Parliament organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Namchi Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India in collaboration with Student Representatives Council of Namchi was conducted at Sikkim Government College, Namchi today.
The chief guest for the day was Mr Ravi Khaling Founder of Multimedia Institute Namchi, accompanied by Mr Sourav Barman District Youth Officer NYK, Mr Deepak Tiwari Principal, Dr Dewan Rai Vice Principal and Mr Pragyan Deep Gurung President SRC, HoDs from various departments, professors and students.
While addressing the gathering, Mr Ravi Khaling expressed his gratitude to the NYK Namchi and SRC Namchi for organising such programme to boost the confidence and generate political awareness in youth. He highlighted the importance of youth in policy making to enhance parliamentary democracy. He also urged the youth to incorporate uniqueness in their identification and encouraged to in-build holistic development for the welfare of the people.
Mr Sourav Barman applauded the students for participating in the mock parliament programme and informed the students to skilled themselves to contribute for the social upliftment of the nation and state. In addition, Mr Nikheal Chhetri (NYK volunteer) briefed about the importance of My Bharat Portal registration and opportunities that is being provided to the youth through the website.
During the programme, Dr Panu Pajo HoD Political Science gave a brief presentation on the importance of various sectors pertaining to the development of the country, Similarly, Dr Laxmi Rai HoD English also informed about the impact of women empowerment. Highlighting on the women centric schemes of the nation, she also explained the role of women in shaping the nation.
At the outset, the students actively participated in the mock neighbourhood youth parliament on the topic ’Vocal for Local’, wherein the best speaker was awarded to Ms Smarna Lepcha. Likewise, the second and third position was secured by Master Biswajeet Sapkota and Master Nitin Chhetri respectively.
