National Institute of Technology Sikkim Hosts Successful Robotics Workshop
Namchi, 14 March: The National Institute of Technology Sikkim, organised a dynamic week-long workshop for Advanced Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Program titled “Robotics for Domestic and Industrial Applications” from March 8th to March 12th, 2024, at Ravangla Campus. The workshop aimed to propel India towards global leadership in robotics by 2030, in line with the draft ‘National Strategy on Robotics’ under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India.
The workshop was attended by 29 participants from all corners of the country, featured 12 distinguished guest speakers and was led by experienced workshop coordinators Dr. Anil Lal S, Dr. Ranjan Basak, Dr. Jai Gopal Gupta, and Nodal Officer Dr. Pratyay Kuila. Eminent experts from leading Institutions like, Prof. S K Shah from IIT Delhi, Prof. Nayan M Kakotay from Tezpur University, Dr. Rajeevlochana, Mr. Ivan Daniels from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Bangalore, Dr. Atul Thakur and Dr. Saurabh Kumar Pandey from IIT Patna, and renowned Dr. Vadakkepat Prahlad from the National University of Singapore, along with Mr. Srikrishna S, founder of Sei Anmai Technology, addressed the participants with their valuable insights.
Attendees were treated to an immersive learning experience, delving into various aspects of robotics such as kinematics, mechanics, programming, simulation, and hands-on practices in robotics development. Software tools like GeoGebra and RoboAnalyser were explored, igniting participants’ imaginations and providing practical skills.
The workshop culminated in engaging demonstrations and presentations, showcasing the newfound knowledge and enthusiasm of the attendees. Discussions also emerged on the establishment of a Tinkering Lab at the National Institute of Technology Sikkim, aimed at deepening understanding of the societal impact of robotics and training the future leaders of India.
Dr. Anil Lal S, Dr. Anjan Kumar Ray, Dr. Pratyay Kuila, and Dr. Jai Gopal Gupta, along with Mr. Mannu Yadav, played pivotal roles in organising this transformative learning experience, fostering a vision to contribute to India’s journey towards becoming a technologically advanced nation by 2047 under “VIKSHIT BHARAT”.
