Celebration of Poshan Abhiyan cum the opening ceremony of Engineers’ Day 2024 at BAC Namthang

Namchi, September 2 (IPR): The Block Development Centre (BAC) Namthang hosted the Poshan Abhiyan 2024 alongside the opening ceremony of Engineers’ Day 2024 celebration today.
Madam Asha Kharel graced the celebration as the Chief Guest. She was accompanied by Ms Indra Dong, Panchayat President Rateypani GPU, Ms Srijana Bhandari Turung GPU, Mr Ratna Gurung, BDO Namthang, Mr Laxman Tamang, CDPO Namchi, Mr Mahendra Timsina, Deputy Director, Ms Sophia Lepcha AD Nutrition Women and Child Development Department (W&CDD) along with the staff of BAC Namthang and W&CDD Namchi and the public.
While addressing the gathering, Madam Asha Kharel praised the enthusiastic celebration of Engineers’ Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya known as the “Father of Modern Mysore State” and highlighted his contribution in transforming the country through technological and developmental advancement. In addition she urged engineers to work relentlessly for the upliftment of the district.
Further, she also emphasised the importance of the Poshan Abhiyan, which commenced from 1st and conclude on 30th September and encouraged the gathering for the widespread participation to ensure its success.
Mr Laxman Tamang CDPO Namchi highlighted the significance of Poshan Abhiyan, a nationwide initiative started in 2018, which focuses on nutritional status of adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers and children from 0-6 years age.
He further informed that this campaign is recorded digitally in convergence with the community involvement for a targeted approach that strives to reduce the level of malnutrition, anaemia and low birth weight in children. He also reiterated on various schemes launched by both central and state governments for the welfare of women and children.
As part of the Engineers’ Day celebrations, an Inter-Department Women’s Volleyball Tournament was held between Skill University Namthang and ICDS Namthang, with ICDS Namthang emerging victorious.
During the event, Mr Ratna Gurung BDO administered the Poshan Abhiyan, 2024 pledge. An exhibition of organic vegetables and various food cuisines were also organised by Angawandi Workers and Helpers.
