CRC Sikkim inaugurates five day long ‘ABACUS’ Learning Course in Namchi

Namchi, Sept 2 (IPR): The inaugural programme of five-day long ‘ABACUS Learning Course’ for General Educators/Special Educators and Students commenced at PM Shri Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Namchi, today.
The programme is organised by Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC) – Sikkim, under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, DEPwD’s Awareness Generation & Publicity Scheme in collaboration with the Department of Education, Government of Sikkim.
The training course commenced today in the presence of Mr Suraj Rai CEO Education (Namchi) as the Chief Guest and Mr Samuel Subba Incharge JNMI, Namchi as the Guest of Honour.
The Resource Person for the program was Mr. Lakhi Kanta Singh, District Cordinator Inclusive Education, SSA, Meghalaya.Officials of Education Department.
Ms. Farnash Begaum, Special Educator, CRC Sikkim was also present during the occasion.
Ms Pushpanjali Gupta, Director CRC Sikkim in her welcome as well as introductory Speech spoke about the inclusive nature of the course where persons with visual disabilities from JNVI are participitating. She informed about the first-of-its-kind 2-year Diploma in Indian Sign Language (DISLI) course that is going to be started at the centre at Assam Lingzey in the regular mode in this academic year-2024-25. She urged that the interested candidates may contact the centre enrolment in the said course.
Further, she also briefed about 70 hr employability skills training for persons with Locomotor disabilities. 62 pwds have been registered for Niramaya Health insurance under National Trust. She also informed on the Centre based assessment cum distribution of aids and appliances going on in the walk-in mode under PMDKY(DIVYASA) scheme.
Similarly, Mr Samuel Subba also touched upon the challenges faced by visually impaired learners and talked about how the help of such a course has created opportunities and growth among them.
Mr. Suraj Rai briefed about the various programmes and schemes implemented by the Central and State Agencies under Education Department.
It may be mentioned here that a total of 34 special teachers along with students are taking part in the 5 day long course from all over Sikkim. The valedictory programme will be held on 7 September.
