Namchi, 9 September (IPR) : In a significant development supported by the Government of Sikkim, the Sports Hostel in Namchi is currently home to 30 promising under-14 athletes from across the state. These students, hailing from less privileged backgrounds, benefit from comprehensive facilities that include educational resources, sports equipment, and expert coaching.
Under the guidance of coaches Mr. Amos Subba and Mr. Mayal Lepcha, the young athletes receive specialised training aimed at honing their skills across various sports disciplines. The programme involves rigorous training sessions, selection trials, and fitness assessments designed to maximise each student’s potential.
Among the hostel’s standout performers is 11-year-old Master Mohit Limbu, who has recently joined Madras FC’s under-13 team. Additionally, Master Arnold Dural and Mr. Alphan Lepcha have been recruited by Round Glass Punjab FC (Mohali) for their Residential Academy. Coach Mr. Amos Subba has played a pivotal role in developing the skills of these talented individuals.
Several other students have also secured places with renowned sports development organisations and centres of excellence, including the Reliance Youth Foundation and Bengaluru FC, further highlighting the success of the programme and its potential to shape future sports stars.
This initiative underscores the Government of Sikkim’s commitment to fostering young sporting talent and providing them with the tools needed to achieve excellence in their chosen fields
