Table Top Exercise Conducted in Namchi to Enhance Disaster Management Skills
Namchi, September 10 (IPR): In preparation for the upcoming mock drill, a comprehensive Table Top Exercise (TTEx) was held today at the Chamber of District Collector Namchi.
The TTEx was organised by the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) in coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) through video conferencing.
The exercise was conducted in anticipation of the mock drill scheduled for September 12, 2024, organized by the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The primary focus was on refining response strategies for earthquake and earthquake-induced Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) scenarios.
During the TTEx Ms. Namrata Thapa underscored the significance of proactive disaster management, stressing that preparedness is crucial for minimizing disaster impact and protecting lives. She highlighted the necessity of advance preparations rather than reactive measures.
Major General Sudhir Bahl (Retd) provided a detailed briefing on the table top and mock drill exercises, emphasizing the importance of adherence to plans and procedures. He also addressed the challenges in disaster management and the importance of mobilizing state-level resources for a coordinated response. He recommended regular building safety reviews and evacuation drills to improve preparedness at all levels.
Ms Anupa Tamling District Collector of Namchi, provided a detailed briefing on the roles and responsibilities within the District’s Incident Response System. She emphasized the importance of the Incident Action Plan (IAP) and stressed that all parts of the response mechanism must be well-informed and prepared.
Furthermore, she encouraged the stakeholders and Officers involved to execute the Mock Exercise with awareness and proper coordination to avoid any panic like situation among the public during the drill.
The TTEx saw an active participation of key figures including Mr. TN Gyatso Senior Superintendent of Police (Sr. SP) Namchi, Mr. Subash Ghimirey Additional District Collector (ADC) Namchi, Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia Sub-Divisional Magistrates (HQ), Mr Saran Kalikotay Sub-Divisional Magistrate Namchi along with nodal officers from various department.
The mock drill, scheduled for September 12, will commence at 10 am. The exercise will cover specific areas within Namchi District, including
