Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim graces the 7th Convocation Ceremony as a Chief Guest at Buddha Park, Ravangla

Namchi, November 17 (IPR): National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim organised the 7th Convocation in Buddha Park, Ravangla, today.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Mr Om Prakash Mathur, Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim as the Chief Guest.
He was accompanied by several distinguished guests including Mr Arup Raha Retired Air Field Marshal, Chancellor of Assam University as the Guest of Honour. Mr Ramesh Kumar Saraogi, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, NIT Sikkim, Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil, Director of the Institute and other officers from the district.
The Hon’ble Governor warmly addressed the graduating students and dignitaries at the convocation ceremony, extending heartfelt congratulations to the students and recognising the collective efforts that have shaped the institute’s success. He also acknowledged the vital role of parents in entrusting their children to the institute’s educational mission.
Reflecting on the nation’s remarkable transformation over the past decade, the Governor remarked that every Indian, irrespective of their location, can take pride in the country’s rich heritage. He expressed that the graduating students have every reason to celebrate their association with the National Institute of Technology, Ravangla, Sikkim.
The Governor highlighted the ambitious vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, outlined by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, and urged the students to perceive this convocation as more than an academic milestone—it is a call to action, as the nation’s future depends on their contributions. He emphasised that education goes beyond earning degrees, it is about making meaningful contributions to society and advancing the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Encouraging the graduates to apply their knowledge to address challenges and drive positive change in their communities, the Governor underscored the importance of taking responsibility for shaping the nation’s progress.
He concluded by reaffirming India’s role as a vishwaguru (global leader) and urged the National Institute of Technology to continue serving as a guiding light in the nation’s development journey.
Mr Arup Raha emphasised the importance of integrity and encouraged the graduates to prioritise the nation’s welfare in all their endeavours.
He provided a concise overview of the industrial revolution, its impact on national development, and the significant advancements in science and technology over time.
He further explored the era of digitalisation, emphasising the critical role of information and technological progress in shaping the modern world. At the same time, he voiced his concerns about the negative consequences of technological advancements, including global challenges like rising sea levels and climate change.
Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil, the Director of the Institute, provided an overview of the institution’s achievements over the past year and outlined future plans, including the expected relocation to the permanent campus at Dung Dung, Khamdong, within the next 3–4 years.
Mr Saraogi highlighted India’s rich cultural and scientific heritage, urging the graduates to honour the nation’s historical achievements by making significant contributions in the fields of science and technology.
Mr Nand Gopal Khaitan, a distinguished attorney and recipient of the D.Litt. degree, shared his optimistic vision for India’s future, highlighting the pivotal role of the graduating students in shaping the nation’s progress.
During the ceremony, the Institute conferred 144 B.Tech. degrees, 1 M.Tech. degree, 9 M.Sc.
degrees, 1 Post Graduate Diploma, and 4 Ph.D. degrees.
Notably, Mr. Anirudh Ghildiyal and Mr. Arpit Paul, both from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, received the Institute Gold Medal and the Director’s Gold Medal, respectively, in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements.
Additionally, six Department Gold Medals were given, recognising outstanding academic achievements in various fields.
