Special Olympics 2024 Organised for Special Children at Bhaichung Stadium.
Namchi, December 11( IPR) : The District Level Special Olympics Bharat (SOB)-Sikkim Chapter (SC) was organised for Special Children at Bhaichung Stadium, Namchi, today.
This one day special sports activity was organised by Special Olympics Bharat-Sikkim Chapter in collaboration with Education ( Samagra Siksha) and Sports & Youth Affairs Department.
The event had the presence of Mr Satish Chandra Rai MLA Namchi Singithang as the Chief Guest. Also present during the event were Ms Anupa Tamling DC Namchi, Mr Subhash Ghimirey ADC Namchi ( HQ), Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia SDM Namchi, Mr Kuber Sharma Dahal President Special Olympic Bharat, Mr Suman Lepcha Director Culture wing( Special Olympics Bharat),Ms Tshering Ongmu JD Sports and Youth Affairs, Chairman and Councillors from Namchi Municipal Corporation ( NMC), dignitaries and coaches along with Principals from various schools and institutions, HoOs from various departments and graduating students of Alpine University, Kamrang qho actively participated as volunteers for today’s event.
At the onset, the Olympic torch was lit by the Chief Guest symbolizing the spirit of the Olympics. The Chief Guest then declared the game open.
Mr Satish Chandra Rai in his address extended his heartfelt appreciation to the entire team of Sikkim-Bharat Olympic for a successful conduction of the event .
He commended the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang Golay for being a sports enthusiast, which enables him to deeply understand the positive impact of sports and activities in our daily lives.
He mentioned that incorporating sports in our lives fosters essential qualities such as proper discipline, punctuality and a strong will to win in life. He encouraged the youth to cultivate healthy habits through physical activities, as a means to lead a balanced and purposeful life.
He urged the NGO’s to extend their support towards special children, helping them discover their highest potential. He encouraged the people of Namchi to embrace team work under the theme ‘ I Love Namchi’ and grow together as a community , regardless of the challenges they face.
He emphasized the importance of greater love and compassion, especially towards special children because they are no different from any other children in our society and deserve equal attention and care.
Mr Kuber Sharma outlined the day’s activities which included,100- meter race, 50-meter race, Bocee and Shot Put for both boys and girls categories. He mentioned that winners from various districts would advance to compete for the state championship and subsequently represent the state at the Special Olympics Bharat at the National level.
He expressed his belief that these special children have the potential to become future intellectuals and bring pride to the nation by securing gold medals at the international platforms. Therefore, he applauded their active participation in today’s event and commended the Special Educators for their unwavering support and dedication in nurturing these children.
The event concluded with the prize distribution ceremony. Additionally, token of appreciation was also presented to the teachers and volunteers for their valuable contribution towards the success of the event.
