Skill Training for Rural Youth on Pest and Disease Management Concludes Successfully in Yangang
Yangang, December 22: A six-day Skill Training for Rural Youth on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Integrated Disease Management (IDM) which started from 16th December concluded successfully today at Karong Agriculture Office in Sripatam Gagyong GPU, Yangang.
The training programme, organized by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Namchi District, in collaboration with the Agriculture Department and sponsored by MANAGE, Hyderabad, aimed at empowering rural youth with essential skills to manage pests and diseases sustainably.
The training programme focused on long-term solutions for pest and disease control using a combination of biological, physical, and mechanical management practices emphasizing environmental friendly and sustainable farming methods.
Participants were introduced to a wide range of topics, including indigenous technical knowledge (ITK), integrated pest and disease management strategies for various crops such as vegetables, fruits, spices, and field crops, and practical demonstrations on the preparation of biopesticides.
Special attention was given to the use of ITK methods to manage pests and diseases, ensuring that the solutions were accessible and effective for farmers.
Key resource persons for the six-day capacity building programme were Deputy Director Agriculture, Ms. Vaishnu Rai; Agricultural Development Officer (ADO) Ms. Florenz Bhutia; and Agriculture Inspectors Mr. Yona Pradhan, Mr. Tuphan Rai, and Ms. Tshering Yangchen Bhutia. Deputy Director encouraged the participants to apply the skills learned and share their knowledge with other farmers in their communities.
Honourable Panchayat President appreciated the efforts of Agriculture Department in empowering the rural youth and expressed his support for working towards the development of agriculture sector. A total of 21 participants were trained.
