Sikkim’s 1st Open International Taekwondo Championship-2025 successfully concludes in Namchi

Namchi, January 25 (IPR): The three-day long Sikkim’s ‘1st Open International Taekwondo Championship-2025’ was successfully concluded at the Indoor Stadium Namchi, today.
Organised by Namchi District Taekwondo Association under the banner of Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association had twelve teams from various regions across the country, with around 300 individual participants.
On the last day of the tournament, Ms Anupa Tamling, DC Namchi graced the event as the Chief Guest and Mr Satish Chandra Rai MLA/Chief Patron as the guest of honour. Present amongst others were Mrs Sabitri Tamang Vice-Chairperson NMC, Mr Pem Norbu Bhutia Councillor NMC, along with patrons of the organising committee and spectators at large.
Ms Anupa Tamling in her address, emphasised that Taekwondo is more than just a sport as it showcases resilience, confidence, discipline and many other qualities for personal growth and development. In addition, she encouraged the participating athletes to keep up their spirit and said that ‘while not everyone may emerge as a winner, everyone is truly a champion.’
This taekwondo competition featured two categories, Sub Junior/Junior, which were divided based on weight classes, while the Cadet category was organized based on height classes.
The prize distribution for the ‘1st Open International Taekwondo Championship-2025’ were as follows:
In the Poomsae Over All Championship Trophy, Grace Academy stood first position with 5 Gold and 1 Silver, while Sanjay Taekwondo obtained second position with
3 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze.
Similarly, in the Kyorugi Overall Championship Trophy, Namchi District Taekwondo Association secured 1st place with 33 gold, 20 silver, and 10 bronze medals. Whereas, Assam claimed 2nd place with 6 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, Manipur team was adjudged as the best discipline team in the tournament.
