Training on Integrated Pest Management of Oilseed Crops under NMEO – Oilseeds.
Yangang, 6th February 2025 – A training programme on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of Oilseed Crops under the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds (NMEO-Oilseeds) was organized by Agriculture Department at Sripatam – Gagyong GPU, in the presence of Honourable ward panchayats, Mrs. Suk Maya Limboo and Mrs. Dhan Maya Chettri, Deputy Director Agriculture, Ms. Vaishnu Rai, ADO, Ms. Florenz Bhutia, HDO, Ms. Sudeshna Kharga, AI, Ms. Tshering Yangchen Bhutia and field officials.
The event saw active participation from farmers fostering an engaging and insightful session.
Ms. Vaishnu Rai emphasized the importance of Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITK) in pest management and led an interactive session with the trainees, addressing their concerns and queries.
Ms. Florenz Bhutia briefed the gathering on the concept of IPM, highlighting the importance of an eco-friendly and sustainable approach to pest management. She elaborated on the various pests affecting oilseed crops and provided insights into their preventive and management strategies.
As part of the programme, a Farmers’ Field Day was conducted, wherein officials carried out on-field inspections, helping farmers with the identification of pests and discussing appropriate management measures.
The event concluded with the distribution of IPM kits and agricultural implements to assist the farmers in pest management.
The training programme served as a valuable platform for knowledge-sharing, equipping farmers with practical skills and modern techniques to enhance oilseed crop productivity while minimizing pest-related losses.
