Namchi District Hospital holds meeting on District Health Society

Namchi, February 7 (IPR) : A meeting of the District Health Society, along with the District Task Force Immunisation (DTFI) and the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT), was held at the conference hall of Namchi District Hospital today.
The meeting was attended by Ms Trisang Tamang ADC Namchi, Dr S N Adhakari CMO Namchi, Mr C P Rai ADC (Dev) Namchi, Dr B K Chauhan DRCHO Namchi, Dr Raju Singh DMS Namchi, Mr Laxman Tamang CDPO Namchi, Ms Sophia Lepcha AD Nutrition, Mr G P Sharma JD Education, Mr Passang Tshering Bhutia General Secretary Dishtri, Ms Bijay Laxmi Rai CNO Namchi along with doctors and staff from Namchi District Hospital and other relevant departments.
Ms Trisang Tamang ADC Namchi, praised the efforts of Namchi District Hospital for its excellent healthcare service delivery. During her review of the presentations, she stressed the growing concerns of hypertension and diabetes, highlighting the importance of effective screening for these conditions to ensure early detection and management.
Dr. S N Adhakari the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Namchi, spoke about the hospital’s performance and its alignment with the objectives of the National Health Organisation. He particularly commended the Gynaecology and ICU departments for their exceptional work and informed attendees that more than 50 dialysis cases are being managed weekly.
Dr. Adhakari provided updates on the hospital’s annual performance, emphasising the commitment to improving healthcare services in the district.
Dr. Urgen Sherpa, Principal Chief Consultant cum DNO/DSO, presented on key national health programmes. These included:
• National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD)
• Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) under Ayushman Bharat
• National Programme for Health Care of the Elderly (NPHCE)
• National Programme for Palliative Care (NPPC)
• International Day of Older Persons (IDOP)
• Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP)
• National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP)
He also discussed the connection between the NRCP and the National Snakebite Management Programme, underlining the importance of these initiatives in safeguarding public health.
Dr. B K Chauhan, DRCHO Namchi, provided insights into the demographic and infrastructural profile of Namchi District.
He also discussed the financial accounts for the year 2024-25, family planning services, infant vaccinations, and teen health initiatives in the region.
Dr. Tshering Wongchuk Bhutia Ophthalmologist, presented on the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB and VI). He celebrated the district’s achievement of being declared cataract backlog-free, showcasing the success of the programme in reducing blindness and visual impairments in the region.
Dr. Amrita Mangar Medicine Specialist, Dialysis Unit, provided an overview of the two primary types of dialysis: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
She highlighted the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP), which offers free dialysis services for Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries. She also presented the Dialysis Unit’s progress, launched on October 2, 2019, which now boasts five B Braum machines, significantly improving local healthcare access.
Dr. Sunita Thapa District Programme Officer, discussed the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), which aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption. She also presented the Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) initiative, a vital part of creating tobacco-free environments in schools and colleges.
Dr. Neelima Thatal, Senior Medical Officer and Head of the AYUSH Department, provided an overview of the AYUSH system (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homeopathy) and discussed its activities in Namchi. She also highlighted the upcoming World Homeopathy Day on April 10, which recognises the contributions of homeopathy to global healthcare.
Dr. Pratik Rasaili District Tuberculosis Officer, shared an in-depth presentation on the annual presumptive TB case examination rate for 2023-2024. He outlined diagnostic criteria for tuberculosis and highlighted the Integrated Case Finding (ICF) approach to active case detection, along with the TB notification targets and achievements from 2022 to 2024.
Dr. Mickyla Lepcha District Quality Consultant, explained the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS), highlighting its role in improving healthcare facilities. She also mentioned the NQAS-certified healthcare facilities within Namchi District, underscoring the district’s commitment to high healthcare standards.
Dr. Raju Singh DMS, provided an overview of the Namchi District Health Society’s achievements. He detailed the progress made by various health departments in improving healthcare services and outlined future plans aimed at further enhancing the district’s health infrastructure.
Ms. Bijay Laxmi Rai CNO Namchi, provided crucial information regarding child immunisation for children aged 1 to 9 years, who will receive albendazole tablets.
She announced that the first round of National Deworming Day (NDD) will take place on March 17, 2025, with a second round scheduled six months later. She stressed the importance of these initiatives in promoting child health and preventing parasitic infections.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to improving healthcare services in Namchi, with all attendees agreeing on the need for ongoing collaboration to address emerging health challenges such as hypertension, diabetes, and communicable diseases, while continuing to strengthen immunisation and health screening efforts.
