Systemizing Namchi: Relocation of Vegetable Vendors to Kisan Market

Publish Date : 21/02/2025
In line with the vision of HCM Shreeman Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) to create a well-organized and systemized Sikkim, and under the direction of Hon’ble MLA 11-Namchi Singithang, Shree Satish Chandra Rai, the Namchi Municipal Council (NMC) took a significant initiative today by relocating all vegetable vendors from various locations in and around Namchi to Kisan Market.
The relocation was crucial, particularly for areas near Musjid and Dambudara Dara, where congestion had posed a serious challenge. In the event of an emergency, access for rescue teams was highly restricted, making it imperative to vacate these locations for the safety of all.
This initiative was not only aimed at streamlining public spaces but also ensuring better facilities and opportunities for the vendors themselves. Additionally, plans are in place to shift all shop owners and hawkers to a designated area soon, further contributing to the systematic development of Namchi.
The entire cost of the shifting process was managed by NMC alone, while the District Administration Centre (DAC) played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth transition. Key officials, including SDM HQ Mr. Nim Pintso Bhutia was present to oversee the relocation and ensure it was carried out efficiently.
The success of this initiative was made possible through the cooperation and support of the vendors, whose willingness to relocate played a vital role in achieving this goal.
