DC Namchi Chairs NCORD Committee Meeting

Namchi, March 18(IPR): A meeting of the District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee was convened under the charimanship of Ms Anupa Tamling DC Namchi at the District Administrative Centre Namchi, today.
The meeting had the presence of Mr Karma Gyamtso Bhutia Sr. SP Namchi, Ms Trisang Tamang ADC Namchi, SDMs alongwith with committe members and Heads of Offices including, Excise, Labour, Social Welfare, Forest and Education Departments.
At the onset, DC Namchi reviewed the follow-up and action taken report of the committee members from the last meeting.
She further emphasized the importance of a results-oriented approach, urging committee members to prioritize actionable measures over mere participation. She directed departments to submit timely reports on activities within their purview and underscored the need for an intensified awareness campaign.
Furthermore, she called for enhanced surveillance, intensified patrolling in high-risk areas, and strict enforcement measures against drug traffickers and individuals found selling liquor near educational institutions or healthcare centers.
Additionally, she reviewed the district’s rehabilitation efforts for de-addiction. In this regard, the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) provided a briefing on the current status of de-addiction centers and the counselling services being extended to drug users within the district.
Sr. SP Namchi informed that seized drugs and contraband will be disposed off next month following prescribed procedures. He emphasized the need for awareness programme on drug abuse and proposed collaboration with the Education Department under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan for school campaigns.
He also stressed educating vulnerable groups, especially minors, on juvenile laws and foster their trust in police to curb addiction in the society. He advised the Health Department to assess the feasibility of implementing testing kits for the effective detection of drug misuse.
During the meeting, the members also put forth various stategies and proposals and throughly discussed measures and enhancing collaboration among departments for a drug-free district.
