Report on Cleanliness Drive Conducted on the Occasion of 50 Years of Statehood
Namchi, 2 May: In celebration of the 50th anniversary of statehood, a Cleanliness and Awareness Drive was organized at the Sikkim Institute of Science and Technology (SIST), Chisopani. The event aimed to instill a spirit of responsibility, hygiene, and environmental awareness among students and staff.
The event was flagged off by the Principal-cum-Director of SIST, who addressed the students and emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in both personal and public spaces. He encouraged students to take active roles in community-building activities and congratulated them for being a part of such a meaningful initiative. The event witnessed full participation from all the faculty and staff members of the institute.
Full participation from the student body was witnessed during the drive. To ensure effective execution, the students were divided into four groups, each assigned a specific area to clean and manage:
• Group 1 & Group 2 took up the task of cleaning the forest area located behind the academic building. The students worked with great enthusiasm, collecting plastic waste, paper, and other non-biodegradable materials scattered in the natural surroundings.
• Group 3 was designated to clean the periphery of the campus, focusing on areas such as the roadside, walkways, and common gathering spots.
• Group 4 undertook the responsibility of cleaning all the laboratories within the institute. The group ensured that lab equipment, floors, and workspaces were dusted and sanitized to promote a hygienic academic environment.
The collective efforts of all groups ensured that the campus and its surroundings reflected the spirit of cleanliness and environmental responsibility. The drive also helped students bond through teamwork and understand their role in contributing to the larger goal of a sustainable future.
The event concluded on a positive note, with students expressing their satisfaction and eagerness to take part in similar activities in the future. All the participants were provided with packed lunches by the institute as a token of appreciation of their efforts in keeping the compund of the institute clean and hygenic.
