PRESS RELEASE FROM HORTICULTURE DEPARTMENT NAMCHI DISTRICT

Namchi, 12 July: A successful papaya seedling distribution programme was held today under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) scheme at Lamaten Tingmoo and Sanganath GPUs, located in the Sikip Block. The initiative aimed to promote the cultivation of high-yielding papaya varieties, namely Red Lady and Sinta, among local farmers.

The programme was honored with the presence of the concerned Area Panchayat members from both GPUs, along with the Deputy Director of Horticulture, Shri S.T. Lepcha, who addressed the gathering. He emphasized the potential of papaya cultivation as a sustainable income-generating activity for the farmers in the region. The field officials also contributed to the successful execution of the event by assisting in the distribution and providing valuable guidance to the farmers on proper planting and care techniques.

Through the distribution of quality Red Lady and Sinta papaya seedlings, the programme aims to support farmers in diversifying their crops and expanding areas under such crop.
