PRESS RELEASE FROM WOMEN, CHILD, SENIOR CITIZEN, AND DIVYANGJAN WELFARE DEPARTMENT, NAMCHI DISTRICT

Namchi, 4 September: Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Namchi District, organized a capacity-building program for frontline workers. The initiative, part of the ongoing 10-day special awareness campaign under Sankalp: DHEW, aimed at empowering women and strengthening health awareness at the grassroots level.
The programme was organised by District Hub for the Empowerment of Women Namchi District, Women Child Senior Citizen Divyangjan Welfare Department.
The program was graced by Chief Guest SDM Sir Yogen Syangden, CDPO Prabin Shilal, AD Nutrition Sophia Lepcha, CA OSC Sangita Gurung and Staff, AWWs.
SDM Mr. Yogen Syangden Sir took the opportunity to thank the organizers for inviting him to the program. He also addressed that sucide cases are in more light as these days. He underlined that Sexual Harrasment Cases as of such has not been reported yet in our state. He hopes that such incidents does not occur in our workplace and in our state.
Ms Heema Devi Sharma, DMC DHEW highlighted the role and initiatives of the Hub for Empowerment of Women, emphasizing women’s empowerment and legal awareness.
One Stop Centre Adminstrator Mrs. Sangita Gurung in her session explained about Sexual Harrasment at Workplace Act 2013. She explained what is sexual Harrasment and how it can be differentiated. She added that as simple as joking inappropriately which makes you uncomfortable can be deemed as harrasment.
She further added that there is a specific way to complain about the workplace Harrasment. There are Local Complaint Committee and Internal Complaint Committee, who handles and serves justice to the victim.
CDPO Jorethang Mr. Prabin Shilal help the AWWs and also the other participants understand more about how ICDS came into formation. He said that as Women and their health were being neglected in past times which led to the formation of ICDs.
The other reason was female fotecide and also the lack of basic right of education not being provided to the girl child. Lastly he concluded by motivating the AWWs workers who are the forefront of ICDS and said that he will always be there to help and support them.
AD Nutrition/ BBP Nodal Officer Madam Sophia lepcha also took the initiative to explain participants understand more about Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojna (PMMVY). The benefits and financial assistance that is provided by the Central Government to women who needs assistance in their prime time.
She also gave a brief information about HUB for the empowerment of Women and One Stop Centre OSC functions and what all help women can avail from these two Centres.
The event successfully enhanced the knowledge and awareness of frontline health workers, reinforcing their critical role in promoting women’s health and legal rights in the community.
