AMRIT KALASH YATRA organised by NIT Sikkim under the campaign of Meri Maati Mera Desh

Namchi, 12th October: National Institute of Technology has organised the Amrit Kalash Yatra under the campaign “Meri Maati Mera Desh”, today. “Meri Maati Mera Desh”, is the concluding program of Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The event with the tagline ‘Mitti Ko Naman, Veeron Ka Vandan’, is a nationwide and people led “Jan Bhagidari” initiative to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence.
The event started with two minutes of mourn silence to pay tribute to all the freedom fighters who gave up their lives to protect the country and also to pray the departed soul of Teesta Disaster caused by sudden flash flood. The maati of various locality has been collected from the employees and students of NIT Sikkim campus, Ravangla and placed in the auspicious Kalash, which will be sent to the National Capital for the construction of an Amrit Vatika at Kartavya Path near the National War Memorial.
A grand Amrit Kalash Yatra was marched out along with the faculties, staff and students of the institute led by Prof. M.C. Govil Director NIT Sikkim. The Yatra was organized within the campus with displaying the national flag, slogans and singing patriotic songs.The faculties, staffs and students actively and enthusiastically participated in the program.
On the occasion, Prof. M. C. Govil has felicitated an Indian Army Veteran Shri Hony. Captain Kishor Rai ‘SC’. Captain Kishor Rai is a retired army personal and a recipient of Shaurya Chakra. Currently he is a resident of Deythang, Ravangla, South Sikkim.
Addressing the gathering, Director NIT Sikkim expressed condolences to the families affected due to the recently occurred Sikkim flood. He highlighted several milestones and unprecedented events achieved in the country under the able leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Prof. M.C. Govil has congratulated every citizen on the successful completion of G-20 under the presidency of Bharat. On this occasion, he remembered the freedom fighters and said that the country will always be indebted to all those who lost their lives for the independence of our country. Prof. M. C. Govil said that we should take inspiration from the brave hearts who sacrificed their lives while serving the country and we all have to work with full dedication to make Bharat a developed country in this Amrit Kaal.
A plantation drive was also organized and an Amrit Vatika is established in the institute.
