An awareness programme on various schemes under Directorate of Fisheries organised at SIRD&PR, Karfectar

Namchi, Feb 15 (IPR): Directorate of Fisheries of Namchi and Soreng districts, Government of Sikkim funded by National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderbad, organised Matsya Sampada Jagurkta Abhiyan at the conference hall of SIRD&PR, Karfectar.
Mr L. N. Sharma, Minister Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Governmemt of Sikkim, graced the programme as the Chief Guest and was accompanied by Mr Lobsang Tamang Joint Director Fisheries, Mr Duchen Lepcha Deputy Director Fisheries, Mr Yowa Raj Sharma Assistant Director Fisheries and Mr Neeraj Sharma Bank Manager SISCO Soreng.
The Minister in his address congratulated the department for organising the programme. He also highlighted the fact that the state government has been working dedicatedly to support the fish farmers to be self reliant and urged them to be aware about various schemes provided by the central and the state government.
The Minister also stated that the state government has been organising exposure tours for the beneficaries to help them develop their skills and make them independent. He also pointed about upcoming projects of creating various Fish Farmers Production Organisations (FFPOs) and creation of fish park and other projects to develop the fish farming culture in the state. He also urged all the beneficaries and the farmers to work diligently and honestly to build up the fish farming industry in the state.
Earlier, Mr Yowa Raj Sharma, Assistant Director Fisheries highlighted about the PMMSY schemes which has been able to reach the public in remote areas to develop and support their fish farming culture. He also pointed the fact that Matsya Sampada Jagrukta Abhiyan was launched in the state on 15th September, 2020, to encourage and make the public aware to take up fish farming and benefit themselves through it.
Mr Neeraj Sharma also gave a short speech on Kishan Credit Card (KCC) and how the beneficaries can avail the benefits from the card being provided. He highlighted that many fish farmers have been using the card and are making good use of it. He further urged others to come forward in using the card and avail its benefits.
The programme also had video presentations of the acheivements of few beneficaries. Mr Krishna Sharma, RO Namchi gave a presentation on ornamental fish culture likewise Ms Tshering Doma Bhutia, FG Namchi, gave her presentation on the said topicnand other departmental schemes being provided. The programme had the participation of around 450 beneficaries from Namchi and Soreng districts.
