Avenue Plantation Drive Held Under ‘Mero Bato, Mero Bot’ Initiative at Samdruptse

Namchi, 23 May (IPR): An avenue plantation drive under the flagship initiative ‘Mero Bato, Mero Bot’ was conducted today at Samdruptse by the Social Forestry Division, Namchi, under the Forest and Environment Department, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the Samdruptse Puja Committee.
The drive saw the planting of various species, including Rhododendron, Azalea, Hydrangea, along with other fruit-bearing plants and trees.
The plantation commenced at Samdruptse entrance gate and extended up to the statue of Guru Padmasambhava, including its surrounding areas.
The selection of plant species and their colour theme was carefully planned to complement the local weather and floral ecosystem, while also enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the area.
“Mero Bato, Mero Bot ” is a flagship programme launched by the Chief Minister of Sikkim MrPremSinghTamang. It seeks to foster public participation and instil a sense of collective responsibility towards the environment.
Citizens play a crucial role, not only by participating in the plantation but also by ensuring the aftercare of the saplings, promoting a strong sense of environmental stewardship.
The event was graced by the presence of DFO Social Forestry and Land Use Ms Marmit Lepcha, ACF SF Ms Beenamit Lepcha and Ms Sabi Gadaily, RO Ms Rekha Chettri, BO Mr B D Khannal, along with staff members from the Forest and Environment Department and members of the Samdruptse Puja Committee.
