Awareness cum Distribution program of Micro Irrigation System under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojna

Namchi, 28th August (IPR): An awareness cum distribution programme of Micro Irrigation System (MI) under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, per drop more crop (PMKSY-PDMC) for Turuk Ramabong cluster (22-23) phase III organised by Agriculture Department was held at Village Administration Centre, Turuk Ramabong today. The chief guest for the occasion was MLA Ms. Farwanti Tamang alongside Panchayat President Ms. Saraswati Mangar, Vice-President Mr. Rup Bahadur Pradhan, JD (Agriculture) Ms. Nirmala Moktan, DD (Agriculture) Mr. Wangyal Lepcha, Panchayats and beneficiaries.
Addressing, the gathering the chief guest congratulated the beneficiaries on receiving the MI which she said will further enhance the cultivation of crops. The Micro Irrigation System is an added utility to the progressive farmers as this is an innovative and effective use of available water to raise crops. Additionally, she applauded the farmers of the area for producing tomato in high numbers while also fetching a substantial profit. On this note, she urged the attendees to continue farming as a self-reliant and self-sustainable profession. Moreover, she informed that the State Government have been allotting various incentives for the benefit of farmers at large and said that the public should make optimum use of this opportunity.
Speaking, during the programme JD (Agriculture) Ms. Nirmala Moktan briefed about MI which she said is a centrally sponsored scheme with the objective to enhance water user efficiently in the agriculture sector by promoting appropriate technological intervention like drip and sprinkler irrigation technologies and encourage the farmers to use water saving and conservation technologies. Similarly, she spoke about the various schemes and projects under agriculture department such as wildlife coverage which is applicable only in Namchi District, Soil Health Card scheme and Kisan Credit Card amongst many. Further, she informed the progressive farmers to get insurance for their crops as it is a livelihood security.
It maybe mentioned that a total of 284 beneficiaries have been selected under this scheme from Turuk Ramabong cluster out of which 180 beneficiaries received the MI today and the remaining recipients will obtain MI in coming days.
