Awareness Programme on Anti-Drug Addiction

Namchi, January 18 (IPR): The District Administration Centre, Namchi in collaboration with Police department, Health department, Education department, Social Welfare department, among other entities conducted an awareness program addressing crucial issues within the society with a particular focus on anti-drug initiatives, today at Namthang, Namchi District.
Present during the programme were SHO Namchi Mr Ashish Bhujyel, CDPO Mr Laxman Tamang, WO Mr Kyondit Lepcha, and other officials from line department, Panchayats, Teachers, Students, members from drivers association and general public.
During the program, SHO Mr Ashish Bhujyel shed light on the severity of Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act (SADA) cases and the potential consequences of being caught with illegal substances. He also educated the drivers about the hazards of drunk and drive and violations of the motor vehicles regulations. Additionally, he highlighted insights into the Juvenile Justice Act.
Dr Mishu Chettri delivered a compelling discourse focusing on the adverse effects of drug addiction on human life and urged both students and the public to steer clear of such substances. She emphasised that individuals struggling with addiction can seek proper medical treatment, encouraging them to approach hospitals and consult psychiatrists for assistance.
The awareness programme extended its reach by covering crucial topics by the guest , such as POCSO, Cyber Crime, and Health and Hygiene.
Furthermore, Students were imparted in-depth information on scholarship schemes by WO Mr Kyondit Lepcha to benefit them.
