Bureau of Indian Standards signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim

Namchi, November 23: Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Body of India signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim on 23rd November 2023 for fostering collaboration in standardization and conformity assessment. BIS has already signed MoUs with a number of esteemed academic institutes to bolster and enrich the standards formulation activities in the country.
The MoUs will pave the way for the partner institutions to participate in standardization activities by associating with the technical committees of the Bureau at the national and international level, getting infrastructure support for relevant R&D Projects, jointly organizing events on Standardization and Conformity Assessment, exchanging publications, introducing standardization curricula in academics, exploring a Centre of Excellence for Standardization, testing, and Conformity Assessment, and sharing laboratory facilities. These activities are aimed at strengthening the standardization activities and quality ecosystem in the country.
During the event, Shri Dibyendu Chakrabarti, Deputy Director General Eastern, BIS gave detailed insights into the framework and future trajectory of the programme and explained how this partnership would unfold. Professor Mahesh Chandra Govil, Director, NIT Sikkim, appreciated the initiative of BIS and emphasized on the need of collaboration with BIS and introduction of the concept of standardization and quality to the faculty and students in the academic institutes. The Registrar, Deans, HoDs, faculty members of NIT Sikkim and Shri Anindya Chakrabarti, Senior Director and Head, Kolkata Branch Office-II of BIS were also present in the signing ceremony.
