Celebration of International Women’s Day at Namchi

Namchi, 8th March (IPR): International Women’s Day under the theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” #BreakTheBias2022
organised by Women & Child Development Department was held at DAC Conference Hall Namchi, today.
The program was graced by the Additional Political Secretary to HCM (South) Ms. Anjita Rajalim as the chief guest. She was accompanied by Vice chairperson NMC Ms. Sabitri Tamang,ADC (Namchi) Mr. Satyan Pradhan, SDM (Namchi) Ms. Rajni Pega, Advocate (District Court,Namchi),
Ms. Sushila Thapa, CDPO( WCD) Mr. Laxman Tamang, Official from different line department alongwith Aganwadi workers.
Wishing all the Women a Very Happy International Women’s Day, APS (South) Miss Anjita Rajalim shared about the various schemes and benefits provided by the State Government particularly towards the welfare of women at large.
She highlighted about the schemes introduced by the State Government namely that of Aama Yojna Scheme which is going to be launched from the month of April. Simultaneously, she discussed about Bhaini Yojana which is free distribution of Sanitary Pad to students above class 9 in all the Government Schools. She also added that the State Government proudly acknowledges and appreciates work tendered in every form by the female gender and said that the State Government will always support them.
During the program ADC( Namchi) Mr. Satyan Pradhan highlighted on the significance of celebrating International Women’s Day. He said that this day is celebrated to acknowledge the achievements of women in social, economic,cultural and political field globally.He added that this day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Advocate Ms.Sushila Thapa informed in brief about the sexual harassment at work place(PPR),Act 2013. She said that sexual harassment is an occupational hazard and the Act 2013 provides safety of women at workplaces. This Act also recognises that sexual harassment of working women amounts to the violation of a woman’s fundamental right and gender equality under Article 14,15 and 21 of the constitution which provides equality before law, prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion,race ,caste,sex or place of birth and protection of life and personal liberty.
During the program, Miss Januki Rai a resident of Purano Namchi, was felicitated for her achievements in the field of Carpentery. She is an Entrepreneur who earns her livelihood by working as a carpenter.
On this occasions a walkathon from DAC, Namchi to Central Park highlighting the importance of International Women’s Day was held. Afterwhich, a signature campaign was also conducted. The Students of Namchi Girls’ Senior Secondary School and Anganwadi Workers showcased a short cultural program at Central Park.
