Chief Minister inspects the ongoing construction of Sikkim University at Yangang

Namchi, 16 December (IPR): Chief Minister Shri P. S. Tamang inspected the ongoing construction of Sikkim University at Yangang, today. He was
accompanied by the Speaker (SLA) Shri L B. Das, Minister Education Department Shri K N Lepcha, other Cabinet Ministers and officials.
The Chief Minister also briefly interacted with Vice Chancellor Professor Avinash Khare and other staff of Sikkim University wherein he mentioned that the inspection is to take stock of the construction process of the university. He urged Vice Chancellor, Sikkim University to expedite the ongoing construction work of three buildings, namely, Administrative, Library and Faculty, which are in verge of completion in phase I. He stressed for early completion of three buildings atleast within six months, so that the non lab faculties can be shifted to the permanent campus, at the earliest.
Moreover, the Chief Minister said that the university will open up various opportunities for locals of the areas and that the sub -division will be elevated at new heights. Further, he also assured to call on the Union Education Minister, Govt. of India, during his upcoming Delhi tour to accelerate the work progress of the central university, established in the year 2007. After the detailed inspection, the Chief Minister addressed a meeting held inside the university campus.
The Vice Chancellor, Sikkim University, drew lights on the execution of ongoing construction work and efforts being made to achieve much awaited infrastructures.
The Chief Minister also handed over the Land/Site allotment orders to the local people who were affected by the Land Slide during the recent years. The land under the Rural Development Department/Land Revenue Department (which was acquired by the RDD for a project named Kishan Bazar) each measuring 2400 Sq. Ft. to 26 local beneficiaries was handed over for their settlement. He also said that the poorest of the poor, deserving beneficiaries will be allotted housing under SGAY, RDD.
The Chief Minister also inspected the 3rd IRBn Camp located at Manglay, South Sikkim and took stock of the status of the available land to set up a cricket ground for the IRBn.
In addition, to that, various other ongoing projects were also inspected, besides hearing the grievances placed by the officers and staff of the Camp the CM also enquired for the well being of the employees at the camp. Few other demands which were also placed by them which would be taken into account in near future, stated the CM
Earlier, Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Shri LB Das inaugurated 15 roomed school building at Government Junior High School, Upper Yangang, South Sikkim in the gracious presence of the Chief Minister.
