Closing ceremony of Poshan Pakhwada organised at District Administrative Centre, Namchi

Namchi, 4 April(IPR): The closing ceremony of Poshan Pakhwada organised by the Social, Justice and Welfare Department, Namchi was held at the conference hall of District Administrative Centre, Namchi today.
The programme was attended by Vice-Chairperson NMC Ms. Sabitri Tamang as the Chief Guest. The event also had the presence of CMO (Namchi) Dr. D.C. Sharma, CDPO Mr. Laxman Tamang, AD (Nutrition) Ms. Sophia Lepcha along with other officials, staff of concerned departments, supervisors of ICDS, Anganwadi Workers and helpers from various corners of the district.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Sabitri Tamang extended congratulations to everyone involved in making the week-long poshan pakhwada programme a grand success. She said that organising such a programme will boost the efforts in eliminating malnutrition and other allied diseases from society at large. Therefore, she requested the involved stakeholders to conduct an intensive awareness drive starting from grassroot level to identify malnourished children. After identifying these children the responsible stakeholders need to take adequate measures so that children don’t suffer from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM). This is to be done in order to achieve the goal of Mal Nutrition Free India.
Speaking, during the programme Dr. D. C. Sharma informed about maintaining a healthy diet and the importance of consuming locally grown pulses found in this region as they are rich in nutrition and extremely important to lead a healthy life. He informed about various types of supplementary foods which are rich in iron, fibre, protein and many more which can be added in our daily diet plan. Further, he mentioned about buckwheat, sprouts, millets, fruits and other seasonal vegetables as super food that help in preventing of anemia.
CDPO Mr. Laxman Tamang spoke about various activities taken under the Poshan Pakhwada programme at various levels in the district. He informed about topics such as Gender-Sensitive Water Management which is generating awareness amongst women kind about the importance of water conservation, promoting rain water harvesting at Anganwadi Centres. He also emphasized about the subject Test, Treat and Talk Anaemia and promotion of traditional food for healthy diet of both the mothers and child.
During the program, AD Nutrition Ms. Sophia Lepcha also spoke about maintaining a healthy diet and the effects of junk food in the long run on the human body.
It may be mention here that the fifteen day long Poshan Pakhwada commenced from 21st March and concluded, today. The programme was also actively supported by Agawnwadi Helpers, ASHA and various other workers.
