Continuation of Special Drive for Oversight of Fair Price Shops

Namchi, 17th January; Amidst the grand celebration of Maghey Mela 2023 at Jorethang Bazar, Food & Civil Supplies Department continues to conduct their Special Drive for Oversight of Fair Price Shops falling under Namchi District. On 16th January 2023, Mr. Tenzing Bhutia DCSO/Namchi accompanied by Mr. Deepak Chettri, DEO and officials from Jorethang Food Go-Down Mr. Tshering Hang Subba, LDC, Mr. Bidesh Rai, MTOS and Mr. Rinzing Tashi Sherpa OA conducted verification of FPSs situated at Budang, Mangsari, Tharpu and Ridang areas. It may be noted that though these areas comes under Soreng District, due to some geographical issues, looked after by Jorethang Food Go-down.
Following FPSs shops have been covered over a period of time:-
1. Sheela Devi Pradhan, Budang
2. Radhan Devi Pradha, Budang
3. Mohan Kumar Sitaula, Tharpu
4. Uma Devi Sharma, Tharpu
5. Yog Kumar Shama, Mangsari
6. Deepa Pradhan Tharpu,
7. Bhakta Prasad Sharma, Mangsari etc.
During the inspection it was found that, few FPS shop have not displayed Sign board, some shops have not refilled their Fire Extinguishers and one shop being run by Mr. Bhakta Prasad Sharma have been found still using beam scale for weighing ration and all of them have been requested to do needful before next departmental visit.
A short public awareness programme was also conducted at Tharpu area countering the fake information being circulated in facebook page that present Government has stopped release of free ration @ Rs. 3/- per kg which was initiated by previous government. This is for information of all concerned that as per the recent announcement of the government of India, Food & Civil Supplies Department is now distributing free of cost ration falling under AAY & PHH category till December 2023 and also request the people of Sikkim not to be carried away with fabricated news having malafide intention to disrupt peace and tranquility of Sikkimese people.
