DC Namchi chairs meeting on the installation of solar lights in villages under the PM Surya Scheme .

Namchi, March 29 (IPR): A meeting with Block Development Officers (BDOs) and officials of the Sikkim Renewable Energy Development Agency (SREDA) regarding the installation of solar lights in villages under the PM Surya Scheme ( PMSS) was conductecd at the District Administrative Centre (DAC) Namchi, today.
Present during the meeting were Director SREDA- Mr Jeewan Thapa, SDM Namchi (HQ)-Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia and BDOs of Namchi District.
This initiative aims to promote solar energy adoption and empower rural communities to become energy self-sufficient under PM Surya a central government scheme.
During the meeting, significance of the Scheme was discussed and for promotion of renewable energy sources to create a more sustainable and eco-friendly energy mix.
Furthermore, she advised the BDOs to judiciously identify a village from each Block for development as a Model Solar Village promoting sustainability and shaping the village’s future. Also,she encouraged the BDOs to engage with the public in raising awareness about the schemes and benefits for more active participation.
SREDA was requested to offer comprehensive support including technical guidance, counseling, and informative resources.
Mr. Jeewan Thapa gave an overview on PM Surya Scheme and the roles and responsibilities of Sikkim Renewal Energy Development Agency (SREDA).
He emphasised on the overall growth and development and encouraged respective villages from across the district to evolve into Model Solar Villages.
He also, discussed the eligibility criteria and the numerous advantages of being a Model Solar Village, including household savings, income generation, the expansion of solar capacity, environmental benefits, and job creation.
The meeting concluded with some informative insights and key discussions which would help the villages to develop into more reliable and sustainable sources.
