DC Namchi Chairs Preparatory Meeting For Cleaner Sikkim Initiative

Namchi, May 14 ( IPR): DC Namchi, Ms Anupa Tamling chaired a prepatory meeting for a cleaner Sikkim initiative to commemorate 50 years of Statehood, at the District Administrative Centre, today.
During the meeting, the DC mentioned that a mass cleanliness drive is scheduled for May 24, spanning from Melli to Jorethang highway. The initiative is being held in a joint effort between the District Administration, local Gram Panchayats, elected representatives and the public in general.
She emphasized the need for coordinated participation and strategies for a seamless coordination among various departments to promote a collective responsibility and action towards a cleaner and greener Sikkim.
She made it mandatory for all government departments to be involved and that each department will be responsible for cleaning 1km stretch along the designated route for a maximum community involvement.
In alignment with the state- wide campaign ‘ Clean The Drain Before The Rain’, she highlighted the urgency of clearing drains ahead of the monsoon season to prevent water-logging and health hazards. Therefore, all the HoO’S were instructed to appoint a Nodal Officer to construct a surveillance of their assigned areas and ensure systematic preparation for the drive.
Also, to minimize the disruption to the highway traffic, the cleanliness drive will commence from 8:30 AM and will continue only for an hour on the scheduled day.
Furthermore, all participating departments have been instructed to ensure proper waste segregation during the entire clean-up process.
This collective initiative underscores the district’s commitment towards environmental responsibility and community involvement as a part of 50 years of Statehood Celebration and a journey towards a long-term sustainability.
Present during the meeting were Sr SP Mr Karma Gyamtso Bhutia, SDM (HQ) Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia. Block Development Officer(BDO) Mr Upendra Rai and HoO’s from various departments.
