DC (Namchi) conveyance Monsoon Preparedness Meeting

Namchi, 27th April (IPR): DC (Namchi) Mr. M. Bharani Kumar chaired a monsoon preparedness meeting at district conference hall, today. This meeting was joined by SSP (Namchi) Mr. K.L. Tenzing along with ADC (Namchi) Mr. Anant Jain, ADC (Namchi) Mr. Satyan Kr Pradhan and Officials from Line Departments of Namchi District Administrative Centre accompanied by representatives from private companies.
DC informed the aim of the meeting is to review the arrangements being made and the precautionary measures being taken to handle the situation which may arise due to the monsoon season in the district. He underlined the importance of smooth communication between the line departments so as to avert any unfavourable circumstances. He also issued clear directives to Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Energy and Power Department, Roads and Bridges Department (Namchi Division and National Highway Division/ ADB) and NHIDCL, WS and PHED, NMC/NJMC, RMDD, Forest & Environment, Smart City, UDHD, Food Department, Agriculture/ Horticulture, Health Department and NHPC and various other departments to undertake the clearance work at the earliest and updated that necessary permissions needed to be taken in case of excavation work undertaken especially during the onset of the monsoon season. He added that men and machinery to be made available and deploy them as and when necessary. He also emphasized the SDMs of the district to coordinate with RS/ARS to explore the sites where road widening, landslides and damage to public property has occurred. These vulnerable sites are to be identified and report needs to be submitted so that people at risk can be alerted in advance. The survey of these places to be done in presence of company officials, contractors and engineers from the concerned department.
Similarly, Power Department has been asked to organise teams on standby for power supply related issues during heavy rains. The said department has to also ensure that line men and engineers to wear protective gears, equipments whilst restoring damaged or shut down lines so that no untoward incidents can happen.
Further, the Forest and Environment Department were directed to ascertain vulnerable locations and clear them at the earliest so as to tide through any potential disaster. The department has to form a quick response team in all five ranges at the earliest and remove trees posing threat within the next 10 days. It was also informed that the Namchi Municipal Council and Naya-Bazar Jorethang Nagar Panchayat have to conduct a cleanliness drive and unclog drains in most of the wards for better drainage before the onset of the rainy season so as to prevent inundations into habitations.
It was informed that reports by the departments of monsoon preparedness need to be submitted within the stipulated time. Moreover, during the course of the meeting the gathered officials also appraised regarding the many development works being carried out in the district, he has directed the administration to take all cautionary measures.
Considering the inconvenience arising amid rainy season DC (Namchi) informed about the helpline number cum disaster control room 03595-264100, citizens can contact the said number wherein monsoon related issues shall be addressed. This number will be operational from 15th May onwards, the Incident Command and Control Centre is now the emergency operational centre (EOC) for Namchi District. He further informed that geo tagging has been proposed to point out endangered spots and this shall soon come into force soon.
