DC Namchi Holds Meeting to Review Joint Action Plan on Drug and Substance Abuse Among Children

Namchi, 18 March(IPR): DC Namchi chaired a meeting to analyze and strengthen the Joint Action Plan (JAP) on the Prevention of Drugs and Substance Abuse among children, as well as to combat illicit trafficking in the district at District Administrative Centre Namchi,today.
Present during the meeting were Mr Karma Gyamtso Bhutia Sr. SP Namchi, Ms Trisang Tamang ADC Namchi, Mr Nim Pintsho Bhutia SDM (HQ), Mr Saran Kalikotey SDM (Namchi), Dr. S N Adhikari CMO Namchi and HoOs of the concerned department.
The meeting was conducted to assess ongoing efforts and discuss strategies aimed at curbing the increasing issue of substance abuse among children. The primary focus was on identifying effective measures to protect children from the dangers associated with drug use.
During the meeting, the DC emphasized the urgent need for coordinated action, community involvement, and stricter enforcement of existing laws. She highlighted that preventing drug abuse among children requires a multi-sectoral approach, with collaboration from all relevant stakeholders.
She further urged all parties involved to work together, stressing that a proactive and unified approach is essential for tackling the issue effectively.
The meeting concluded with a call for an immediate implementation of the revised action plan, designed to combat the rising problem.

1. launching awareness programmes in schools to educate children about the dangers of substance abuse.
2. Increase surveillance and monitoring in high-risk areas to deter drug-related activities.
3. Enhance rehabilitation and support services for individuals affected by drug abuse and
4. Intensify crackdowns on illegal drug networks operating within the district to dismantle the supply chain.
In conclusion, the authorities pledged to take swift action to address the issue, ensuring a safer environment for children and the community as a whole.
