DC Namchi Leads Extensive Assessment of Flash Flood Damage in Lingi Paiyong, Assures Swift Relief and Restoration
Namchi, 2 July (IPR): DC Namchi Ms Anupa Tamling, who also serves as the Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), today conducted a comprehensive joint inspection of the flash flood and washout-affected areas at Lingi Paiyong GPU under Tumin-Lingi Constituency.
The inspection was undertaken to assess the extent of damage caused by recent heavy rainfall and flash floods, with particular emphasis on roads, public infrastructure, agricultural land and residential properties.
Accompanied by SDM Yangyang Mr K L Dahal, and officials from various line departments, the DC visited several affected locations under the Yangyang administrative jurisdiction to review the ground situation and monitor the ongoing relief, restoration and rehabilitation efforts.
The inspection was conducted in the presence of Lingi-Lingmoo Zilla Territorial Member, Ms Som Lachi Rai, along with the concerned Gram Panchayat members.
During the visit, the DC interacted with local residents, public representatives and officials at Government Secondary School, Lingi Paiyong, to gain first-hand information on the challenges being faced by the affected communities. She assured the public that the District Administration remains fully committed to providing all possible assistance and ensuring the early restoration of normalcy.
The inspection team also visited the landslide-affected areas of Kau Khola and Rangla River, where 11 households have been severely affected, while more than 150 families from Sumsee Kau have been impacted by the disaster. The 11 displaced households are presently being accommodated at the relief camp established at Government Primary School, Dara Kharka Ward.
Reviewing the arrangements at the relief camp, the DC directed the concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted provision of essential services, including food, healthcare, sanitation and other basic necessities.
As part of the field inspection, she visited the worst-affected locations, including Kau Khola, Sokphe, Chauree Dara and Dara Khola, where she carried out an on-the-spot assessment of damaged roads, public infrastructure and residential areas. She also visited each affected household, interacted with the families, listened to their grievances, assessed their immediate requirements and assured them of timely relief, rehabilitation and continued administrative support.
To ensure the swift restoration of essential services, she instructed all concerned departments to expedite the repair and restoration of damaged roads and other public infrastructure.
She further directed the concerned line departments to maintain close coordination and submit detailed damage assessment reports within one week to facilitate relief assistance, rehabilitation planning and the implementation of long-term mitigation measures.
The District Administration reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitoring the situation and extending all necessary support to the affected families until normalcy is fully restored.
