DIET Namchi Hosts First Teachers’ Conference on Innovative Teaching Practices in Primary Education

Namchi, 28 August 2024 (IPR): The District Institute of Education & Training (DIET) Namchi organised its first Teachers’ Conference on Innovative Practices in Teaching and Learning in Namchi, today.
The conference was honoured by the presence of Mr Robin Chettri Director SCERT along with Mr Suraj Rai CEO Education Department Namchi, Mr G P Sharma and Mr P K Sharma Joint Directors Education Department Namchi, Ms Tshering Lhamu Bhutia Joint Director SCERT.
The event also saw the participation of Heads of Institutions (HOIs), teachers, and students.
The conference featured a series of technical sessions where educators from across the district shared their insights and strategies through PowerPoint presentations.
These sessions covered a range of critical topics related to primary education. The presentations sparked engaging discussions, allowing participants to interact and exchange ideas on enhancing teaching methodologies.
Mr Robin Chettri, the chief guest, in his address expressed his gratitude to the organisers and commended the innovative presentations made by the teachers. He highlighted the progress achieved in implementing the New Education Policy (NEP) and praised the dedication of teachers in adopting this policy in impactful ways.
He emphasised the need for holistic approaches to education and encouraged contributions towards the comprehensive development of the education system within the district.
Further hecdiscussed the introduction of the National Curriculum Framework, aimed at introducing new and innovative teaching methods at the primary education level.
He also urged the SCERT and DIET to initiate research programmes and activities in various schools inorder to bring educational development.
During the event, special recognition was given to books authored by Sikkimese writers, which have received national acclaim from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
Mr P.K. Sharma, Joint Director, acknowledged the efforts of the teachers and their dedication to showcasing innovative classroom methods. He discussed the shortcomings of the previous education policy and expressed gratitude for the new educational materials provided by the SCERT Department.
The conference also marked the launch of DIET’s new magazine, Gyanam Anantam.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and souvenirs to the participating teachers, recognising their contributions and efforts.
