District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) Conducts a Quarterly Meeting for Namchi District

Namchi, February 19 (IPR): The first quarterly meeting of 2025 for District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) under Namchi District was held at Town Hall, Namchi, today.
The meeting was chaired by Dr Indra Hang Subba Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) cum Chairperson of DISHA. Accompanying him were Ms Rajkumari Thapa (Deputy Speaker,SLA), Mr Satish Chandra Rai (MLA Namchi-Singhithang), Mr Riksal Dorjee Bhutia (MLA Barfung) and Mr Madan Cintury (MLA Zoom-Salghari)
Present amongst were Ms Anupa Tamling (DC Namchi/Secretary DISHA) along with ADCs, SDMs, HoOs of line departments, Members of Namchi Municipal Council, Zilla Panchayat Members, Gram Panchayat Members, officials and other dignitaries.
Dr Indra Hang Subba, in his speech, highlighted Namchi’s superior infrastructure, describing it as the best in Sikkim. He emphasized its need to support the State Government in generating revenue. Additionally, he discussed the Influx Monitoring and Labour Registration Committee, stating that its proper implementation would benefit the people of Sikkim. He stressed for proper coordination between public representatives and administrative officials, and emphasised on transparency and efficiency.
Further, he also suggested that DISHA meetings should focus on presenting reports on the ongoing programmes and schemes at block-level rather than merely explaining schemes. In addition, he stated that public representatives have the right to intervene in any issue as long as it is done constructively and positively.
Ms Anupa Tamling gave a concise presentation on the central sponsored schemes, outlining their implementation in Namchi District, along with its progress and the potential for future development. She further highlighted the district’s low fertility rate, noting that the population has only increased by 2,614 people from 2011 to 2024. Additionally, she pointed out the district’s high suicide rate, which led to Namchi being chosen for the Pilot Intervention Programme under the Sikkim INSPIRES, aimed at improving mental health and suicide prevention in the state.
During the meeting, the concerned officials from the Rural Development Department, Health and Welfare Department, Education Department, Agriculture Department, and Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Person with Disabilities Welfare Department delivered PowerPoint presentations.
Wherein, they briefed on the implementation of schemes, and challenges related to their implementation, and provided detailed updates on their current status.
Each presentation was followed by an interactive and productive open discussion.
