District Hospital Namchi Celebrates Milestone of 100 Successful Joint Replacement Surgeries

Namchi, 17 May (IPR): The District Hospital Namchi held a special programme today in its conference hall to commemorate a remarkable medical achievement — the successful completion of 100 joint replacement surgeries.
This milestone not only marks a significant advancement in the hospital’s orthopaedic services but also reflects the unwavering dedication of its medical professionals.
The successful surgeries have restored mobility and transformed the lives of numerous patients, standing as a testament to the hospital’s commitment to quality healthcare and surgical excellence.
The event was graced by Area MLA Mr Satish Chandra Rai, alongside Chief Medical Officer Namchi – Dr S N Adhikari, Principal Director- Dr D Deokota and Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon Specialist.
In his address, Mr Satish Chandra Rai praised the hospital team’s commendable efforts and extended heartfelt congratulations.
He expressed hope that the same collaborative spirit would carry forward into the soon-to-be-inaugurated 500-bedded hospital in the district. He also reaffirmed Sikkim Government’s continued support to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services in the region.
Dr S N Adhikari, in his welcome address, highlighted the hospital’s ongoing success in offering joint replacement surgeries at affordable rates. He noted that procedures are supported under schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).
He also outlined the hospital’s aspirations to reach beyond regional boundaries and perform over 200 surgeries in the near future, while stressing the need for additional resources to strengthen infrastructure and services.
Dr D Deokota spoke on the infrastructural improvements underway at the hospital and credited the present government for its steadfast support.
He emphasised the need for advanced technical tools to better serve the increasing number of patients.
Dr Kanchen Gurung delivered a comprehensive presentation detailing the 100 joint replacement surgeries completed in less than 2 years — comprising 61 hip replacements (male-40 female- 21) and 39 knee replacements (male -17 female-22).
He attributed this success to the medical staff’s skill and dedication and recommended the incorporation of robotic-assisted surgeries at the upcoming hospital facility to further enhance patient outcomes.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by District Nodal Officer Ms Bijay Laxmi Rai who acknowledged the collective efforts that made this achievement possible.
The event was also attended by District Tuberculosis Officer Mr Pratik Rasaily, Senior doctors, nurses and hospital staff of District Hospital Namchi.
