District-Level Cleanliness Drive Commences in Namchi

Namchi, September 21 (IPR): Mr Bhoj Raj Rai Minister for Urban Development and Food and Civil Supplies Departments attended the “Swacchata Hi Seva 2024 – A Decade of Transformative Cleanliness” campaign, themed “Swabhav Swachhata Sanskar Swachhata,” at Helipad Assangthang today. The event was held under the slogan “Sunawlo Sikkim Samridhi Sikkim”.
The programme had the presence of Panchayat Presidents of Assangthang GPU along with Mr Subash Ghimirey ADC (HQ), Dr C P Rai ADC Development Namchi, Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia SDM (HQ), Mr Saran Kalikotey SDM Namchi, Ms Deepti Pradhan DIO Namchi, Mr Upendra Rai BDO Namchi and Self Help Group members.
The Minister in his address highlighted the critical role of cleanliness in preventing disease spread and advocated for a behavioural shift towards hygiene. He urged the public to engage in proper waste segregation and maintain cleanliness year-round.
He further emphasized the importance of the theme, urging every citizen to cultivate a mindset geared towards maintaining cleanliness both in the State and across the country.
He directed the incharge of the Helipad to ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of its premises stressing the importance of keeping local tourist attractions.
He also acknowledged the state government’s commitment towards ensuring proper cleanliness throughout the state.
The BDO Namchi elaborated on the campaign’s emphasis on public participation and the recognition of sanitation workers.
He further informed that the campaign is officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which is observed from 17th September to 2nd October, encouraging citizens to adopt a sustained commitment to cleanliness.
Additionally, he introduced the “Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs,” which aims to ensure the health and social security of sanitation workers through preventive health check-ups.
The programme concluded with a pledge for “Swacchata Hi Seva” administered by the Minster and the distribution of Dignity Cards to the district’s sanitation workers.
